2026-27 UAC Preview: Central Arkansas Leads, Tarleton State Is the Sleeper
2026-10-27
Central Arkansas is Mid-Major Hoops' pick to win the first men's basketball season of the rebranded United Athletic Conference. Austin Peay is the closest challenger, and Tarleton State is the sleeper. The UAC name is used throughout this package; historical WAC and ASUN references describe previous seasons, not current membership.
The nine-team league consists of Abilene Christian, Austin Peay, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, Little Rock, North Alabama, Tarleton State, UT Arlington and West Georgia. Its 16-game schedule is a double round robin. Central Arkansas's returning core gives it a slight edge over Austin Peay's established two-player foundation and younger supporting cast. Tarleton's experienced transfer group creates a clear case for exceeding Blue Ribbon's seventh-place expectation, even though the supplied Torvik snapshot already places the Texans first.

Team-by-team outlook and projected rotations
All starting assignments and MMH records are editorial projections, not announced lineups or model-generated game picks. Heights and class years follow current official roster labels where available; class labels do not independently establish eligibility. Each team's first five players are projected starters and the next five are reserves. Returning refers to the 2025–26 program; previous school and career path can refer to an earlier stop.
Statistics are actual 2025–26 overall lines from the named school or club. NCAA Division II, junior-college and professional-club production is labeled and is not presented as Division I production. Incoming prep players and players who did not appear have zero college GP with N/A averages; no earlier season is silently substituted. N/A means not verified or not applicable, including recruiting ratings that could not be verified. A rating describes high-school recruiting, never transfer-portal value. Full career histories and individual source/conflict notes accompany the downloadable data.
1. Central Arkansas
Continuity gives Central Arkansas MMH's first-place vote. Ty Robinson returns after averaging 14.2 points and 5.6 rebounds, Luke Moore supplies 9.4 points and 3.5 assists, and Cole McCormick adds another established scorer at 9.1 points. They already know how to share responsibility. In a newly configured league full of reconstructed rosters, that familiarity has practical value: fewer possessions need to be spent discovering where a teammate wants the ball or who should make the next read.
Tucker Anderson returns to Conway after a season at Utah State. His last-season production—3.4 points in a limited role—should not be confused with his earlier UCA scoring, but his previous familiarity with the program makes the fit more credible than a generic transfer addition. Malchiah Marable provides a returning interior presence, while Harry Beauchamp gives the perimeter rotation another familiar option. Wyoming transfer Simm-Marten Saadi adds frontcourt size and a different developmental path.
Rylie Marshall and R.J. Newton return after seasons without appearances, and freshman Camarion Bead brings another guard to develop. The projected bench therefore includes genuine uncertainty even on a team with substantial continuity. The Bears' strength is an offense that can spread decision-making across several returning players. The weakness is that continuity does not eliminate the need for reliable paint defense and rebounding against bigger opponents. MMH prefers UCA's established framework over Austin Peay's younger supporting cast, but the margin is narrow. Thirteen league wins assumes Anderson fits quickly, Moore remains an effective organizer and Robinson continues to contribute beyond scoring. It does not assume every reserve becomes a proven contributor immediately.

2. Austin Peay
Austin Peay has the strongest returning two-player foundation in the UAC. Rashaud Marshall averaged 16.3 points and 6.8 rebounds, and Zyree Collins supplied 13.5 points and 4.3 assists as a freshman. Marshall can anchor the scoring around the lane while Collins creates the initial advantage. That pairing reduces the number of tasks the newcomers must solve immediately and explains Blue Ribbon's first-place prediction.
The question is how quickly the supporting perimeter group becomes dependable. Marshall transfer Shamarrie Hugie brings size and experience, but his 4.4-point average came in 12.4 minutes per game. Loyola Chicago transfer Chuck Love III averaged 7.2 points across 13 appearances, offering upside with a limited sample. Freshman Cam Ryans is projected to start; his verified recruiting profile gives a basis for optimism while his lack of college experience remains relevant. Bradley Floyd and Felipe Minzer are other nationally ranked freshmen in the reserve group.
Donovan Bolden, PJ Singleton and Birkir Eythorsson add more first-year options. That much youth can raise the long-term ceiling while also producing uneven defensive possessions and bench minutes early. Collins and Marshall should make Austin Peay difficult to disrupt in the half court, but the Governors cannot ask them to absorb every offensive problem and every difficult defensive matchup. Their best version gets complementary shooting and energetic defense from the freshman class without requiring freshmen to manufacture the offense. MMH places Austin Peay second, one game behind Central Arkansas, because the supporting rotation needs more immediate development. If Love and Ryans settle quickly, the order of the top two can easily reverse.

3. Tarleton State
Tarleton is MMH's UAC sleeper, with an important qualification: Bart Torvik already projects the Texans first. The disagreement is with Blue Ribbon's seventh-place forecast, not with a verified official coaches' poll, which was unavailable at the research cutoff. MMH lands between those views at third. The roster contains enough experienced transfers to challenge near the top, but enough turnover to make a title prediction aggressive.
Caleb Blackwell gives the rebuilt offense a sensible starting point after averaging 10.6 points and 2.9 assists at UTEP. Franck Emmou arrives from Texas State, TJ Cope from New Orleans and Isaac Harrell from Elon. None needs to reproduce a starring role from a larger conference; the stronger case is that they can form a balanced perimeter and forward group around a lead guard who has already played substantial minutes. West Georgia transfer JaVar Daniel averaged 7.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in the final cumulative report, adding direct familiarity with one of the new league opponents.
Returning guards Leroy Kelly IV and Kade Douglas give the bench some continuity. Fresno State transfer Jac Mani and Utah arrival Josh Hayes provide frontcourt alternatives, while Trey Harris brings 16.6 points and 5.9 rebounds from Division II West Virginia State. The appeal is experience across the projected ten and enough positional options to avoid a single narrow lineup. The concerns are shot creation when Blackwell rests, defensive communication and whether Harris's scoring translates. Tarleton can outperform the yearbook prediction without every transfer having a breakout year. A third-place finish requires steady guard play, collective rebounding and a rotation that becomes more than the sum of its prior-school averages.

4. Little Rock
Little Rock may have the most obvious scoring ceiling in the league. Aaron Clark averaged 15.2 points at Pepperdine and Jah'Likai King supplied 14.0 at UMBC. Jalen Lyn's final College of Southern Idaho line adds 16.5 points, while Ranger transfer Cameron Brown produced 19.4. New coach Travis Ford has several ways to construct a perimeter group that can pressure a defense rather than relying on one high-volume scorer.
Tyrese Lacey is projected to organize that group. His final-season line is not cleanly resolved: the checked Little Rock biography differs materially from the yearbook and two season databases. The dataset records the corroborated 34-game Daytona State line and documents the conflicting biography; the projection should not depend on treating one disputed assist average as certain. Terrion Burgess returns after six appearances, and Pittsburgh transfer Papa Amadou Kante offers a rebounding presence after an eight-game season. Both are important to the lineup's potential, and both have limited recent availability.
Taj Walters adds perimeter size from Northern Illinois, Jamai Felt brings rebounding and rim-defense potential from Temple, and Ayomide Bamisile arrives from ULM. The question is how the pieces complement each other. Multiple prior-school scorers still need an efficient shot hierarchy, and a small lead guard puts more responsibility on the surrounding defense. Little Rock can rise above fourth if Ford establishes those roles and the frontcourt stays available. MMH is more cautious than Blue Ribbon's second-place forecast because the roster is almost entirely new and several key pieces have interrupted recent seasons. The scoring talent makes that caution easy to punish if the fit comes together.

Source conflict: Lacey's 34-game Daytona line is corroborated by the yearbook and two season databases, but differs from Little Rock's biography. It is retained with lower confidence and an explicit audit note.
5. UT Arlington
UT Arlington's roster is a test of how much weight to place on opportunity versus recent production. Mier Panoam played only seven games at Xavier, Noah Shelby nine at Texas A&M and Niko Bundalo eleven at Ole Miss. Their previous programs and recruiting backgrounds create interest, but those small 2025–26 roles cannot by themselves establish a high-end UAC offense. Panoam's earlier college experience adds context; it is not substituted for his actual last-season line.
Freshman Trevaun Clark is projected to start on the wing, giving the group another talented player who has not yet produced in a college game. Miles Goodman returns after 30 appearances, providing some continuity at center. Alcorn State transfer Tycen McDaniels is an important counterweight to the more speculative additions: he averaged 12.0 points and 6.1 rebounds over 32 games and offers evidence of a sustained college workload.
The bench has intriguing production from junior college. Jerimiyah Smith averaged 20.1 points and 9.7 rebounds at Ventura, and Tristan Hankins added 18.5 points and 3.5 assists at Butler Community College. Teodor Simic brings size and professional experience from Kozuv, while Stoney Hadnot returns after a season without appearances. The strength is a broad range of possible lineup solutions, including size and alternative scoring sources. The weakness is that few of those solutions have been tested together, and several projected starters need to turn limited minutes into consistent responsibility. MMH places UTA fifth: close enough to the contenders to rise if the high-upside additions translate, with enough uncertainty to avoid assuming recruiting pedigree will produce immediate conference results.

6. Abilene Christian
Abilene Christian's strongest returning pieces are complementary rather than dominant scorers. Yaniel Rivera averaged 7.2 points and 2.3 assists, while Cade Hornecker supplied 5.3 points and 3.4 rebounds in 15.8 minutes. They provide a starting point for a team whose offensive ceiling depends heavily on newcomers. Rivera's final report lists 1.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists; the larger rebound figure in the yearbook should not be carried into the statistical table.
Utah Tech transfer Noah Bolanga is the most substantial recent college producer among those additions, with 11.9 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists across 34 appearances. He offers a wing-sized source of rebounding and secondary playmaking. Gus Salem arrives from Central Club in Lebanon, and New Mexico transfer Timeo Pons brings size after a limited freshman role. Salem's club numbers are not NCAA statistics, and the missing season fields remain N/A.
Isaac Dye returns to the perimeter rotation. Evan Boisdur arrives from Grand Canyon, Victor Yimga Moukouri from Howard College and Willan Marie-Anais from Fos Provence in France; freshman Drew Haffner adds another guard. The depth provides options, but much of the production must be translated from smaller college roles or different competitive environments. ACU's route to the upper half is to turn length and activity into defensive possessions that create easier offense before the half-court attack becomes predictable. The risk is that an inconsistent perimeter attack puts too much pressure on Rivera and Bolanga. MMH projects sixth, above Blue Ribbon's eighth, while recognizing that reliable shooting and a settled lead-guard role are still necessary for a larger jump.

7. Eastern Kentucky
Eastern Kentucky has more potential creation than its returning scoring totals alone would indicate. Drae Vasser averaged 17.6 points and 5.9 assists at Vincennes, and Justin McCarter's final Northeastern Oklahoma A&M totals produce 17.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists. Both arrive from junior college, so the relevant question is how their decision-making and finishing adapt to Division I length and pressure. McCarter's reported minute totals are incomplete; an implausible published minutes average is not used.
Returning forward Austin Ball supplies 8.0 points and 2.9 rebounds, and Jackson Holt gives the perimeter another familiar scorer at 7.2 points. Rhode Island transfer Damone King offers another guard, although his last-season role was limited to 7.7 minutes per game. LIU transfer Shadrak Lasu adds rebounding and interior experience; his final cumulative line, rather than an inconsistent biographical summary, is used in the rotation data.
Josh Lowe arrives from Moberly Area, Mouhamed Camara from Louisville and freshman Amari Owens from high school. Yvens Paul returns as another frontcourt option. Camara had no college appearances last season and should be treated as a developmental newcomer rather than an established contributor. The offensive upside comes from Vasser and McCarter making plays for teammates while Ball and Holt stretch the supporting scoring. The weaknesses are the translation burden on the new ball handlers and the need for consistent rebounding and paint protection. Seventh is a cautious projection in a compressed middle tier. If the junior-college additions are immediately efficient, EKU can outperform it; if they need a long adjustment, the returning group may not supply enough creation to cover the gap.

8. North Alabama
North Alabama is one of the biggest gaps between Blue Ribbon's fifth-place projection and MMH's forecast. The roster has experience, but much of its featured scoring comes from NCAA Division II or junior college. Drey Carter averaged 16.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists at Fairmont State, while Caden Harris produced 11.1 points at Point Loma. Those are credible accomplishments. They still need to be evaluated as production in their actual competitive settings rather than treated as automatic UAC averages.
Canisius transfer Mike Evbagharu supplies a particularly useful all-around line: 9.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists. That rebounding and passing could help a rebuilt lineup avoid becoming dependent on one scorer. Damarien Yates adds frontcourt experience from Alabama State, and Quan Lax arrives from Austin Peay after a nine-game season. Lax's availability and ability to organize the offense are important because the projected starting group has several players accustomed to finishing possessions rather than initiating every action.
Ansar Osman averaged 17.9 points at Snead State, EJ King 23.8 at Bevill State and Maf Ndiaye 12.1 at Ranger. Julius Clark and Jacobe Whitted provide additional Division I experience. The group offers multiple possible scorers and enough size to compete on the glass. The concern is how quickly the ball handling, spacing and defensive communication become coherent. MMH projects eighth because the strongest version requires several simultaneous successful translations. A higher finish is plausible if Evbagharu's versatility stabilizes the lineup and Carter becomes a dependable frontcourt creator, but the forecast should not simply add together prior-school points per game.

9. West Georgia
West Georgia has an immediate organizing piece in Chas Lewless, who averaged 12.8 points and 2.9 assists across ten appearances. His health and ability to sustain that production over a full season are central to the outlook. Justin Redmond adds another experienced guard from Northwestern State. Malcolm X College transfer Juaquin Dixon brings a verified 22.0-point scoring average, but conflicting supporting statistics are left as N/A rather than assigned to him without a reliable reconciliation.
Iowa Central transfer Aleix Sempere offers a useful frontcourt foundation after averaging 14.8 points and 10.1 rebounds. Returning Kenneth Chime supplied 5.0 points and 5.9 rebounds, giving the Wolves another interior contributor. Micah Smith missed 2025–26; his earlier Georgia Southern numbers belong to a different season. Getting him available would add another wing option without requiring the team to treat an older stat line as current evidence.
David Simon arrives from Vermont, Amir Williams from Hofstra, Lou Hutchinson from Alabama A&M and Marshal Destremau from UTRGV. There is enough size and experience to build a competitive rotation, but not yet a clear full-season Division I scoring foundation beyond the smaller Lewless sample. The path upward is straightforward: stabilize the guard play, translate Dixon's scoring and let Sempere and Chime keep games competitive on the glass. The risk is that offensive droughts and inconsistent perimeter defense reinforce each other. MMH projects ninth while recognizing that Lewless's availability could make the Wolves more troublesome than that position suggests. West Georgia remains in its Division I transition; the yearbook identifies the 2028 NCAA Tournament as its first eligible tournament, so the 2027 automatic-bid chase is a different consideration from its regular-season finish.

Conference outlook
Central Arkansas's continuity and Austin Peay's Marshall–Collins partnership make them the most dependable starting points. Tarleton offers the clearest case for outperforming the yearbook, while Little Rock has the scoring talent to disrupt the top tier. UT Arlington and the lower-half teams must translate substantial portions of their rosters from limited roles or different competitive levels. In a 16-game double round robin, a small improvement in guard efficiency or defensive rebounding can change several places.
Research note
Research cutoff: October 27, 2026. The supplied 2026–27 Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook is the primary scouting reference. Current official rosters, individual biographies and final prior-school cumulative statistics take precedence over earlier personnel lists and partial samples. The separate player audit documents all 90 selected players, including the fields that remain N/A. These are projections for the current membership, not a transfer of last season's conference affiliations.
